The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Life Sciences Program at UVAS is an intense and demanding experience, which requires two years of study. The program is designed to develop individuals with outstanding managerial skills and expertise in various capacities including decision making, management of financial and physical resources, business environment audit, entrepreneurship techniques, strategic planning, marketing and human resource management in the industrial and economic environment of Pakistan.
The admission will be offered on annual basis. Limited hostel facility is available for Master’s students.
Program Design:
The MBA (Life Sciences) program comprises six semesters study. Each semester is of 16 weeks including one week of final exams. The total number of credit hours is 92, having 18 courses each of 3 credit hours, 8 courses with 4 credit hours and one Management Research Project of 6 credit hours. .There are three courses for each specialization track; and Management Research Project will have to be completed in the relevant area of specialization.
To be eligible for the degree the student must obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 and completion of Management Research Project (MRP) is compulsory.
Admission Rules for MBA (Life Sciences) Program:
Students seeking admission in MBA (Life Sciences) program should apply to the Director, DEBM through admission forms available from the office. It is important for students to follow the guidelines and important dates to comply the admission procedure within time-limit specified by the university. Attested photocopies of the academic credentials and recent photographs should be supplied along with filled application form and academic references.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor/Master degree from HEC recognized institution for both Evening and Morning programs.
- Minimum 2nd division throughout the academic career.
- Work experience of at least one year is required for students applying for Evening MBA program.
- Students from Life Sciences background will be preferred.
- Candidates having Masters/Bachelor with 1st division will be given 10 marks, and 5 marks for 2nd division.
Admission Criteria:
Admission to the MBA (Life Sciences) Program shall be granted to the applicants on the basis of following criteria approved by the University. The admission criteria for Morning & Evening programs will be determined as follows:
Academic Qualifications 30%
Admission Test 30%
Interview & Relevant Experience 40%
Seats for Admission:
The total numbers of seats and their allocation to different categories will be decided by the Department Admission Committee.
Requirements for MBA (Life Science) Degree:
Following are the requirements for obtaining MBA (Life-Sciences) degree:
- A student must attend at least 75% of his/her lectures, seminar sessions, meetings, etc. to become eligible for appearing in the final examination of the semester.
- He/she must successfully complete 26 courses, one project individually. Student must also obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of a maximum of 4.00.
- He/she must complete Management Research Project - MRP in elected specialization business track. MRP can be completed from well established business entity having operations in manufacturing, trading or services after approval from DEBM management. This module carries a weightage of 6 credit hours.
Examination System:
In MBA study, there is semester system comprising of two compulsory examinations in each semester for each course: a mid-term, and a final-term examination. The duration of each semester is of 16 weeks. The pattern of examination and evaluation criteria is based on academic rules. However, class tests and quizzes could be of multiple choices; but mid-term and final-term examination should be based on descriptive questions. The grade given by the faculty member shall be considered final. The dates for the examinations shall be announced well in advance by the department. In addition to these examinations, marks have been assigned to quizzes, class works, home assignments, class presentations, class discussions, term papers, etc. The grade shall be determined keeping in view the overall performance in examinations, term papers, class tests, timely completion of assignments, class presentations, etc.
If a student fails to appear in any examination/quiz, or fails to submit academic assignment on time, or is unable to give his/ her presentation on due date; he/she shall be given no mark in that examination/quiz/presentation, etc.
The weightage to examinations, academic assignments, and presentations/quizzes will be as per university Rules. Equivalence between letter grading and numerical grading shall be as follows.

Explanation:
a. At the end of the first semester, student must obtain a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.00 to be promoted to the second semester.
b. In case a student is able to obtain G.P.A. of 1.75 or more but less than 2.00, he will be promoted to the second Semester on probation.
c. At the end of the second semester, a student must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (C.G.P.A.) of 2.00 and must also pass at least 50 per cent of the courses taken by him in order to be promoted to the third semester. If any of the preceding two conditions is not fulfilled by a student, he/she shall cease to be on the roll.
d. A student will be required to repeat those courses of the previous semesters in which he had failed, at the first available opportunity.
e. At the end of the third and subsequent semesters, the C.G.P.A. of a student should not be less than 2.00 otherwise he shall cease to be on the roll.
f. A student, who cannot maintain the G.P.A/C.G.P.A. requirements in accordance with regulation and ceases to be on the roll, may seek fresh admission along with other candidates, on merit, but only once.
The following weightage shall be given to the Examinations, home assignments, term papers, etc.
i. Course Work / Examination
Mid-Semester Examination 25%
Home assignments/Term papers, Quizzes, Class participation 25%
ii. Final Examination
Covering the entire course 50%
